This week (on Wednesday 24th of June) the new version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ (2020.2) was released. Later we will from Volupes side do an update webinar as we did with version 2020.1. But this blog post will include some of the new features that we would like to emphasize. In this part there will be a focus on user experience, 3D-CAD and meshing.
User Experience
One new feature is that you can now group your field functions. You can create your own groups or use several predefined groups that sort the field functions accordingly.
Another update for your convenience is the new ordering of reports when creating new ones. They have now been grouped in categorical way to allow you to easily find what you need.
3D-CAD
A new feature in the 3D-CAD tool is variable fillet along edges. This allows you to create more realistic geometries.
Meshing
In terms of surface preparation there is now automated marking of feature curves. You no longer need to use a Java script to mark feature curves as this is available in the meshing pipeline.
There has also been improvements in the surface wrapper for large cases where the gap closure is used. There is no change to the setup, but the algorithm has been improved.
The parallel volume meshes has improved as well, specifically the tetra- and polyhedral meshers have been improved and is now up to 3.8 times faster for some cases. Best improvements for high core counts and for cases where you have high surface area to volume ratios.
This was some of the new updates for version 2020.2. For more information you are referred to the full update notes or the manual. Next blog post will handle more of the updates for Simcenter-contrast=”auto”> STAR–CCM+ 2020.2. I hope this has been helpful and interesting.
