What is Simcenter Amesim?

Simcenter Amesim is a mechatronic system simulation platform from Siemens Digital Industries Software for evaluating and optimising performance before physical prototypes are built. Engineers build one model from ready-to-use hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and thermal libraries, then use it to size components, check energy use and validate controls.

Capabilities

Multiphysics libraries

Libraries cover hydraulic circuits, plus mechanics in 1D, 2D or 3D with rigid or flexible bodies and non-linear friction. Electrical libraries add batteries, fuel cells, power converters and electric motors, and propulsion models cover combustion engines and gas turbines. One real-time-capable gas library handles both gas and pneumatic circuits.

Thermal and battery systems

Simulate air-conditioning loops, heat pumps and vehicle thermal management, with heat transfer between solids, liquids and gases, including phase change. The heat exchanger assistant covers designs such as fin-and-tube and micro-channel; for heat exchanger stacking analysis, Simcenter Amesim works with Simcenter STAR-CCM+ CFD technology. The battery pack assistant builds pack models, cooling included.

Controls and real-time testing

Develop and validate controls against a physics-based plant model through the Simulink interface or C-code integration. The same model serves model-, software- and hardware-in-the-loop (MiL, SiL, HiL) testing: most libraries are real-time capable, and models export to at least a dozen real-time targets. The Automation Connect module links models to real or virtual PLCs.

Design studies and model data

Run batch studies, design of experiments and optimisation inside Simcenter Amesim, or drive it from Simcenter HEEDS when a study spans several tools. Python, MATLAB, Scilab and VBA scripts automate runs and post-processing. The Simcenter System Simulation Client for Git option handles branching, versioning and access control, and Teamcenter Simulation manages models, parameters and requirements.

Questions about Simcenter Amesim

Answers reviewed by

Fabian Hasselby

Senior Application Specialist, M.Sc.

What is Simcenter Amesim used for?

Engineers use Simcenter Amesim for multi-domain systems such as hydraulic actuation, aircraft fuel systems, vehicle thermal management, battery packs and powertrains. Control engineers use the same models for control design and for model-, software- and hardware-in-the-loop (MiL, SiL and HiL) testing.

What does Simcenter Amesim cost, and how is it licensed?

We don't publish fixed prices: we quote for your setup, based on the number of users and the licence term. We can also quote Simcenter Amesim through Simcenter X: Simcenter X Tokens are shared in a global pool and return to it when a task is complete, and Simcenter X Advanced combines a named-user licence with a token pool. Tell us which systems you model and how many engineers will use Simcenter Amesim, then request a licence quote or book a meeting.

Can I see Simcenter Amesim in a demo first?

Yes: book a demo with one of our engineers and tell us about the system you model. If you want to evaluate Simcenter Amesim on your own model afterwards, raise it in the meeting and we will tell you what is possible.

Simcenter Amesim or Simcenter Flomaster: which do I need?

Choose Simcenter Amesim for the wider system, where parts from several physical domains work with their controls. Choose Simcenter Flomaster for pressure losses, flow distribution and surge in pipe networks. The two can run together through FMI in either direction, such as an Amesim pump model inside a Flomaster network, so you do not always have to choose. Not sure which fits? Send us a technical question.

Does Simcenter Amesim work with FMI, Simulink and Modelica?

Yes: Simcenter Amesim imports and exports FMUs and supports both model exchange and co-simulation. To validate controls, it couples with Simulink and integrates C code, and Modelica libraries can be combined with the native libraries. For larger co-simulation setups, Simcenter System Architect combines Amesim models with Simulink models and FMUs.

Is there training for Simcenter Amesim?

Yes: our introductory Simcenter Amesim course runs online over two half-days and assumes an engineering background. It covers the simulation environment, solvers and post-processing, the Study Manager for batch runs, design of experiments and optimisation, and CAD import with automatic model generation. See the next dates on our training page, or ask us about a place.

Why buy Simcenter Amesim through Volupe?

You get licences, support and training for Simcenter Amesim from one company, and your support questions go to simulation engineers. We sell, support and train the full Simcenter portfolio, so the same team can help when a project adds Simcenter Flomaster or Simcenter HEEDS. We are a Siemens Platinum Partner at Smart Expert level, with a Top European Partner award for customer support.
