Simcenter Flomaster
Simcenter Flomaster offers a comprehensive simulation toolset for designing, commissioning and operating thermo-fluid systems.

What is Simcenter Flomaster?
Simcenter Flomaster is a 1D simulation tool for the design, commissioning and operation of thermo-fluid systems. It connects to PLM, CAD, 3D simulation and industrial IoT, so the same system model can follow a product from first concept to daily operation.
Accelerate time-to-market with thermo-fluid system simulation
Flomaster combines fast, reliable solvers with a large library of built-in correlations, so you can size gas, liquid and two-phase systems and components with confidence early in the design. Using one virtual model you can also test dynamic events such as changing operating conditions, component failures and emergency scenarios, and make sure the system stays safe and efficient in all of them.
Design, commission and operate thermo-fluid piping systems
The model you build during engineering does not have to be thrown away when the system is built. The same digital twin can be reused in operation for virtual sensing and real-time monitoring, giving you insight into parts of the system where physical sensors are impractical or expensive. That turns Flomaster from a design tool into something that keeps paying off through the whole life of the plant or product.

Why Choose Simcenter Flomaster
Frontload CFD simulation to shorten development
Simcenter Flomaster lets engineers simulate complete fluid systems early in the design process, before detailed CAD exists and when changes are still cheap to make. A 1D model of a cooling circuit, pipe network or fuel system solves in seconds or minutes, so you can answer sizing and performance questions long before a full 3D CFD analysis would be possible.
Model the whole system, not just one component
Where 3D CFD looks at a single component in detail, Flomaster captures how pumps, valves, heat exchangers, tanks and hundreds of metres of pipe behave together as a system. You get pressure, flow and temperature across the entire network, in both steady state and transient conditions, and can see how a change in one place affects everything downstream.
Build on decades of validated component data
Flomaster comes with an extensive library of components backed by empirical loss data collected over more than 40 years, so results are trustworthy without extensive calibration. You can add your own test data, supplier curves or characteristics from 3D CFD to make the model match your specific hardware. This is what makes Flomaster a reference tool for pressure surge and water hammer analysis in industries where getting it wrong is expensive.
Use simulation driven design – explore, compare and optimize
Run parametric studies and design sweeps to evaluate many system configurations in the time it would take to set up one 3D case. Test 'what if' scenarios such as pump failure, valve closure times or extreme operating conditions to make sure the system performs reliably. Flomaster also co-simulates with Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Simcenter Amesim, so you can zoom in with 3D CFD where it matters and keep the system context around it.

Validated component library
Simcenter Flomaster includes an extensive library of pumps, valves, pipes, bends, heat exchangers and more, backed by empirical loss data collected over decades. Components can be extended with your own test data, supplier curves or results from 3D CFD, so the model reflects your actual hardware without lengthy calibration.

Transient and pressure surge analysis
Flomaster is widely used for water hammer and pressure surge studies. Simulate valve closures, pump trips and start-up sequences to find pressure peaks, cavitation risk and pipe loads before they become a problem in the field. Results help you size surge vessels, set valve timing and verify system safety.

Open integration and co-simulation
Connect Flomaster to Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Simcenter Amesim for co-simulation, or exchange models through FMI. Automate studies with Python or Excel, and manage models and results in Teamcenter. This lets the 1D system model live alongside the rest of your simulation process instead of in a silo.

Thermal and two-phase flow
Flomaster handles more than pressure and flow. Model heat transfer through pipes, heat exchangers and thermal masses, and simulate two-phase systems such as steam networks, refrigeration loops and boiling in cooling circuits. This makes it suitable for everything from vehicle thermal management to power plant and process piping.

Proven across industries
Flomaster has been used for decades in aerospace fuel and hydraulic systems, automotive cooling and lubrication, marine and offshore piping, water distribution, district heating and power generation. The same tool scales from a single cooling loop on a desktop to a plant-wide network with thousands of components.
