Driven by Quality and Constant Learning.
Viktor Hultgren is one of Volupe’s new talents specializing in structural FE methods, with a particular focus on Siemens Simcenter 3D and Femap software. His role involves providing support and training to Volupe’s customers while ensuring they stay updated on the latest features in these software products. With a background in engineering physics, Viktor is dedicated to using his knowledge to deliver high-quality solutions and help customers maximize the tools they use.
“Simulations offer visually intuitive and fast solutions.”
What are your main responsibilities at Volupe?
– I joined Volupe to strengthen our competence in structural FE methods, particularly in Siemens Simcenter 3D and Femap software. I am responsible for providing support and training in these products and ensuring our customers are aware of how to leverage the new features in the latest releases.
What led you to choose your current field, and what attracted you to Volupe?
– My interest in simulations really took hold during my university studies. Coming from an engineering physics background, it quickly became clear that problems solved with pen and paper often become complex or require a lot of work. The possibilities that simulations offer – with visually intuitive, fast, and accurate solutions to complex problems – really spoke to me.
– Why Volupe? – Working at Volupe brings a wide variety of challenges across different industries, which sparked my interest. Additionally, the opportunity to work daily with the latest versions of industry software, requiring me to stay on top of both theory and practice, means that there is always something new to learn. That way, work never gets boring.
What drives you in your work?
– Mainly, it’s the desire to do something with quality. When I invest time in something, I want to feel proud of what I’ve produced. In my current line of business as a consultant, this means ensuring that the end-user benefits from the knowledge I can provide. For me, this requires constant learning and improvement – because our customers are doing the same.
“When facing something complex, break it down and be patient.”
How do you approach complex problems or challenges?
– I think one of the most important aspects when starting to tackle something complex is to break it down and have patience – when eating an elephant, you’ve got to take it bit by bit. Don’t panic, set clear, achievable goals, and then start putting in the hours. Eventually, you’ll get there.
How would you describe your work philosophy when collaborating with customers and colleagues?
– Patience, taking the time to listen, and understanding each other. Communication can be tough, even when you speak the same language. You need patience and to be a good listener to truly understand and communicate what will mark success for both parties. With customers, it’s about understanding their desired outcome and delivering on that. And while doing so, it’s always nice to have fun along the way.
What do you envision for your future at Volupe and in your field?
– I’m really looking forward to starting to give courses and meeting users face-to-face. This is also something new for me, coming from a consultancy background, and it will be great to meet the users and see that they can do more after a training or support session.
– Regarding goals, it will be really exciting to be part of growing the business on the structural side of Volupe. We are already an established company, especially on the CFD side, and increasing our presence in structural simulations will be an awesome journey.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time when you’re not working?
– The things that take up most of my spare time are trail running, road cycling, and, if time allows, one or two gym sessions. Otherwise, I really enjoy being out in nature – walking, camping, or sailing are other activities I love.
How do you balance your work with your personal life?
– This ties back to the "eating an elephant" analogy: Work never really stops, meaning you’ve got to be in it for the long run. So, I think my main key to maintaining that balance is to make sure I keep exercising, plan activities outside of work, and also make my workplace a place I want to go to – where I have fun.
