In this week’s blog post we are looking at how to set up a Design Manager project. We will also be looking at how to provide output files from each design in terms of data tables or pictures, with Auxiliary files, which will save the output in folders corresponding to each design.
How to set up a Design manger project

Auxiliary files
When running a Design manager project, running through your combinations of parameters, there is often a lot of data needed to be extracted. Setting up extraction of tables, plot and scenes can be a great way of not needing to evaluate each design via the simulation. By enable the output in the base file, see picture below, you can even use Auxiliary files to get the output sorted per design. In the picture below you see that the output will be saved per iteration, to the specific folder corresponding to the design (indicated by a dot, “.”, to specify the current folder).
In the Auxiliary files output you can choose which type of files to export, see picture below. In the picture, [csv] files are chosen to be exported, but there are also many other formats to choose. Note: If you want to run several jobs simultaneously you can utilize one more job per core if you have token (or serial or power session) licenses available. The most economical is to use one token per job, if you have the license structure and computational set up for this option. Set the number of simultaneous jobs in Run settings.
For the output folder structure, visualized in the picture below, you see how the table and other output is saved within each specific folder.
Note: when running the Design manager, if you dont have several licenses you can start the session using the flag “-dmnoshare” to be able to have both the reference simulation and the Design manager project open at the same time. You add this flag in the command line when opening the simulation (it works in both the GUI and the terminal).
